Turism&Travel : American Airlines introduces early boarding option for a fee

Friday 18 June 2010

Some airlines charge for food and baggage.
Now, one airline has come up with another new fee, the early boarding option.

American Airlines wants you to pay extra to board the plane right after first class passengers. However, it is uncertain whether passengers will pay for the convenience.

American is offering a new boarding and flexibility package that will allow you to board your flight early. People who purchase the package will board just after the airlines' priority access customers.

The package also includes other services, such as a $75 discount on changes to your itinerary. Purchasers will also be allowed to "standby" for an earlier flight on the day of their departure.

The introductory price starts at nine-dollars, which will be charged when you purchase your ticket.

Prices will vary by market and route. For example, it would be $19 from JFK to Los Angeles. It will be $14 if you're traveling from Miami to Washington, D.C. It is only $9 for the shorter route from Dallas to Kansas City.

In the near future, you will also be able to purchase the flexible boarding option when you check in at the self-service kiosks at most airports.

"It presents alot of flexibility & [to meet] the needs of the market place," said Ned Raynolds, an airline spokesman.

Travel experts see the package as perks that don't affect essential services. The customer pays for only what they want.
