Turism&Travel : Latest 2011 APEC Leaders' Week update

Tuesday 04 October 2011

Hawaii's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week is just 34 days away.

We also want to say mahalo for your positive feedback on our most recent APEC update. Since the last update was issued, additional questions were received and the answers have been provided by the United States Secret Service, the lead agency for security during APEC 2011 Leaders' Week.

1. Will Waikīkī Beach be closed during APEC?

No. Visitors and residents will have access to Waikīkī Beach during APEC. There may be some restrictions and screenings during certain times, but the United States Secret Service, working together with law enforcement and public safety partners, will make every effort to anticipate and minimize those disruptions.

2. Will non-APEC visitors need security clearance prior to coming to Hawai'i if they are staying at a hotel that is hosting an economy at their property?

No. Non-APEC visitors will not need any type of pre-visit security clearances.
