Turism&Travel : Toronto's most extreme attraction opens

Tuesday 02 August 2011

TORONTO - EdgeWalk at the CN Tower, Toronto's most extreme attraction, is opening to the public today.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m., adventure lovers will prepare to walk on the edge of one of the world's greatest man-made wonders, 356m/1168ft (116 storeys) above the ground. Demand for reservations for Toronto's newest attraction has been high since tickets went on sale June 1.

"We're extremely excited this day is finally here," said Mark Laroche, President and CEO, Canada Lands Company, owner and operator of the CN Tower. "The public has shown that they are ready and eager to push their limits by taking part in Toronto's most exciting attraction in decades."

EdgeWalk is CN Tower's most thrilling attraction in its 35 year history, and the first of its kind in North America. It is the world's highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower's main pod. Visitors will walk in groups of six, while attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness system. Trained EdgeWalk guides will encourage participants to push their personal limits, allowing them to lean back over Toronto with nothing but air and breathtaking views of Lake Ontario beneath them.

"It's inspiring to see this attraction open to so much enthusiasm after years of planning and hard work," said Jack Robinson, COO, CN Tower. "Beginning today, people from around the world will come to Toronto to experience this unique urban adventure."

Designed with the highest international safety and security standards in mind, EdgeWalk will run 1.5 hours, with the outdoor walk lasting approximately 30 minutes. Tickets cost $175 CAD and include a keepsake video, photos and certificate of achievement. Participants will also receive a Total Tower Experience Ticket which includes access to Look Out, Glass Floor, Sky Pod, Movie and Motion Theatre Ride. EdgeWalk will operate seasonally from May to October in all weather except for electrical storms and high winds. Varying weather conditions will make the EdgeWalk experience different with each visit. An official public EdgeWalk launch event and celebration is planned for September 15
