Turism&Travel : Black Friday and Cyber Monday travel deals

Friday 26 November 2010

Black Friday can be the start of a beautiful - and more affordable - vacation as resorts and hotel companies join other retailers in slashing prices on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

"Everyone's looking for deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so it makes perfect sense to put hotels on sale on those two days," said Genevieve Shaw Brown, senior editor at Travelocity. "Take advantage of the sales to snag a bargain getaway."

Here are five deals that could send you on a much-needed vacation for less than you thought.

InterContinental Hotels Group The parent company of brands such as Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza is offering US travelers US$50 off any flight on any airline to any destination through April 30 when they stay at least one weekend night at any of the company's locations. To get the deal, you have to follow a special link and register by becoming a member of the group's free loyalty program. Also, be sure to check the fine print : The full terms say that your airfare must be booked through ATG, the travel agent for this promotion.

Travelocity The popular travel website will offer a hotel sale on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Travelocity is keeping mum on exactly which properties will be discounted, but it's promising 50 percent off a three-star oceanfront hotel on Hawaii's Waikiki Beach; 30 percent off a trendy four-star hotel in downtown Los Angeles, California; and a fourth night free at a four-star hotel on Paradise Island, Bahamas. Bargain hunters will also get an additional US$100 off flight and hotel packages on those two days only when they use the promo codes "BLACKFRIDAY" and "CYBERMONDAY." To get the deals, visit Travelocity.com/blackfriday and Travelocity.com/cybermonday . The sites currently default to the company's regular travel deals but will list the specials on those respective days starting at 12:01 am for one day only.

The Sonesta Collection The company is offering a 50 percent discount on all two-night stays at its 32 hotels and resorts all over the world, including the United States, South America, and Africa. You'll get the deal by booking on Sonesta.com from Black Friday through Cyber Monday or calling 1-800-Sonesta. The sale is valid for visits through December 30, 2011.

Starwood Hotels Eager to escape the snow and the freezing cold? The company that owns brands such as St. Regis, Westin, and Sheraton is offering a "Cyber Monday Resort Sale." Starwood promises savings at more than 60 resorts in favorite getaway spots, including Hawaii, the Bahamas, and the US Virgin Islands, when you book by Friday, December 3. (Savings are valid for stays from January 1 through April 30.) Plus, on Monday only, Starwood is touting additional offers like 50 percent off suites and rates from US$99. To get the deal, click on a special link on November 29.

Shell Vacations Hospitality Save up to 50 percent on nightly room rates at 23 of the company's resorts in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The sale begins on Black Friday and lasts through midnight on Cyber Monday. Properties participating in the deal include the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Orange Tree Golf Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
