Turism&Travel : Las Vegas Airport complete blackout

Tuesday 05 April 2011

LAS VEGAS (eTN) - There has been a power outage at McCarran International Airport causing the entire to operate in "pitch-black.
"

At about 1:30am on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Las Vegas' international airport operations came to an abrupt halt when the entire airport lost electricity.

Sources tell eTN that planes are currently stuck on the tarmac, with some planes which are as close as a few inches to their respective jetbridges unable to move.

Las Vegas airport spokesperson Michael Alanza told eTN that Nevada Electric is on the way. It is unclear what has caused the power outage. Back up generators did not come on in the terminal building. A terror attack is not yet out of the question.

Planes are not allowed to approach the gates at this time.

eTN editor-in-chief Nelson Alcantara is on a Spirit Airlines flight 124 from Chicago O'Hare in Las Vegas at this time. He is saying that the airplane was literally a "few inches away from the jet-bridge" when the power went out.

UPDATE: Power was restored at 2.20am
