turism&travel : Airport news: Virgin America revives its efforts to enter Chicago market

Monday 26 July 2010

Virgin America airline is trying again to enter the Chicago market by reviving its efforts to negotiate gate space at O'Hare.

The California-based airline was thwarted two years ago from offering low-cost flights to popular West Coast cities because nearly all of O'Hare's gates are under long-term lease to American, United and Delta.

"We are still hopeful we can come to an agreement on gates and bring our service to ORD [O'Hare] soon," said Virgin America spokeswoman Abby Lunardini.

Virgin America is known for its upscale amenities such as on-demand food and drink service, the ability to send text messages between seats and "mood-lighting."
